When I was a senior at Murphy High School in Mobile, Alabama, my creative teacher, Ms. Inge, assigned The Prince of Tides. Although I'd know from a young age that I wanted to be a writer, it was The Prince of Tides that made me want to become a novelist.
I believe I told Pat about his influence on me at some literary event in the south--maybe Birmingham in the early 2000s. I'm sure many young writers came to him with similar stories.
I will always appreciate the books Pat Conroy put into the world, and I appreciate this website. Thank you.
