I just finished reading South of Broad and am having a novel hangover already. Wow! Truly one of the best and remarkable books I have read for a long time. Thank you for killing off the bad evil father. Thanks for the ride.

Kathryn Lang, editor, SMU PressSouthern Methodist University Press

Would you consider writing a statement in support of the SMU Press which is in danger of being precipitously closed June 1? You wrote a wonderful blurb for Sam Michel's book, BIG DOGS AND FLYBOYS not long ago. We are receiving much support from the literary community, and we'd be grateful for yours as well. We need these statements of support ASAP; our editorial board meets with the provost on this matter on Wednesday, May 12th. Please join Ann Beattie, Richard Russo, Abraham Verghese, Ron Carlson, Thomas Lynch, Rosellen Brown, Jill McCorkle, M.S. Bell, David Slavitt, Robert Boswell, David Huddle, Lee K. Abbott, and so many others in helping to persuade our provost that we are worth keeping. We would be most grateful.
A beleagured editor at a tiny literary press,
Kathryn Lang

Dear mr. Conroy,
I was 114 th on the waiting list at our library for South Of Broad. I am reading it now. I love your work and your beautiful southern soul. Fine, oh so fine writing. Much continued success. Margie

Dear Mr. Conroy, I've read all of your books starting with the Prince of Tides, and just recently South of Broad, then Beach Music. I wish I could craft words sufficiently to state the scope and depth of how your writing impacts mind, heart and soul. I'll be reading your cookbooks soon. Hopefully, my wife - a retired home ec. teacher - will trust me in the kitchen. Thanks for being such a "doctor" of language. That's one huge step above "master"

Did you ever meet Philip Simmons? Do you have any memory or stories of him?

Just finished listening to South of Broad. This is the first novel of yours I've had the pleasure to read. It was so great! I'll be a loyal fan from now on, and can't wait to get the next book. Leo Bloom King is my hero!

Hello Mr. Conroy,
I just read that you are working on a book about your 2 years teaching history at Beaufort High School.
Although you were not one of my teachers, I was only there for my Freshman year and have the yearbook with your picture, 1968.
Yes, we have physically changed a lot since then but mentally we share similar lives. Many thanks for writing through your pain and expressing such love for mankind.
Best wishes for many more stories,
Martha

Hello Mr. Conroy!
I am a librarian embarking on a wonderful Pat Conroy booktalk on the 29th of April at Southminster Retirement Community. The residents there unanimously (and no holds barred I might add) petitioned for your works to be the topic of discussion. In preparation for this event, I am in the process of re-reading all your titles (yes, ALL of them beginning with The Boo) and have never enjoyed my life more than while preparing for this project. I have scoured the web, read biographies, news releases, hollywood gossip rags, and anything I can get my hands on to give these dear fans something new and inspiring to take with them from this booktalk - although I have learned and attained some wonderful info - if you have anything special - just for the old fans - please send. XXOO

Mr. Conroy, there is a group of men I think you should meet. I have encouraged my friend to write about these incredible men. He won't, and someone should, so I thought you just might be adventurous to take a stab. I will release all rights. Please contact me.

I absolutely loved South of Broad, but then I expected to but not even I could predict what a glorious read it would be! I've been a fan for years, feeling that Pat Conroy is writing with me in mind and feeling a kinship between us through his writing. When I joined a book club for the first time last fall (and I was most reluctant to do so but thought I should expand my horizons), I saw there was a new Pat Conroy book out and chose it without ever seeing it. It has not disappointed! If I were a dog, I would be drooling on every page - such a wordsmith is he! Thank you, thank you, thank you, Pat Conroy!
