I am thrilled you have a new book, I just cannot wait. We spent 3 years in Charleston, building the new Cooper River Bridge... Ravenol, whatever, and love the place. However, I adore all your books. The fact that it is in Charleston is just a little bonus.

I have implored my book club comprised of younger women (I dare not call myself so) to read Prince of Tides for some time. Initially they were daunted by the sheer size of the book, but over the past three years they have been willing to venture forth into more challenging territory. We are now reading the Prince of Tides, and I have just finished my fourth journey into the pages of the novel. Again, I am held hostage by the power of this Southerner's prose. He has made me happy once again to claim the blood that runs through my veins...the blood I can never deny. Here's to you Pat Conroy..I'll be standing in line to buy your new book in August!

The Lords of Discipline was my introduction to Pat Conroy. Since then, I have read them all, some twice. After I read Beach Music about 10 years ago, I was sad because I knew it would be awhile before I had the honor of reading the next Conroy novel. I didn't know at the time it would be 10 years. I can't tell you how thrilled I was to learn about South of Broad. I have been waiting patiently for August 11 to get here. Please Pat, don't make us wait another 10 years before your next one.

South of Broad is such a wonderful celebration of Charleston. It is also a perfect homage to life-long friendships. I cannot tell you how much it means to me to be your literary agent. It means even more to know that from the day you walked into my tiny bookshop in Minneapolis nearly thirty years ago, I have been able to call you my friend. I remember so well your electrifying speech before booksellers in New Orleans on the publication of The Prince of Tides. That morning you said that it was your mother who made you into a Southern writer. I suspect this fan site will show you just how happy your many readers are that she did.
