First, what a wonderful adventure South of Broad was for me. Funny, touching, tragic and beautiful. I try to read other authors, but find that they can never capture southern characters or my favorite city on earth, Charleston as you do. Thank you for an incredible journey. As I read it, I could see the movie unfolding before me...I hope that comes true! Waiting for your next one now....

You've done it again. South of Broad - can't stop reading it, yet don't want it to end. Thanks for a great reading experience.

Thanks for another wonderful book (SOB). Since I am a huge fan of Charleston and your work this book held me captive the entire time. I just finished The Water is Wide and found it was factual about most of the southern school districts of that time period. Now, I will be reading Beach Music, again. That is my favorite book by anyone and I reread it every 3 years. I find that as I age I read it differently each time as if I have never read it before.
Hope another book is in the works.

I know I'm 14 or so years late, but "Beach Music" is the best book I've ever read. Actually, Frank Muller read it to me. Beach Music fans, do yourself a favor and listen to the audiobook. You will love listening to the different accents and dialects. My favorite is John Hardin. What a hoot!

Your books helped prepare me a bit for life in the South after many years teaching in Germany--so I thank you. I smiled at the term "troglodyte", since my friend in Beaufort just recently referred to himself as a Ludite. Get yourself a Mac and it will make all the difference. Take care and keep on writing what has become a common culture for so many of us Boomers.

As a Pat Conroy fan since reading The Water is Wide, I could not wait to open the cover of South of Broad. Your writing simply grabs me by the heart and holds me captive until I reach the final page. What a story told by a master story teller. Thank you for sharing your gift.

South of Broad was worth the wait. I love your books and have them all. I am planning a visit to Charleston soon and know I will enjoy it more for having read your book. Best of everything to you and Cassandra. Hope your health has improved.

Thank you Pat Conroy for another great work with "South of Broad". I too find myself thinking about and "living" with your characters for days and weeks after reading one of your books. Leo, the "Toad", was a great character and loved that he had such a wonderful father in Jasper.

I just finished SOUTH OF BROAD and I just have to tell you how much I love your books. My favorite book of all time is still BEACH MUSIC; however, each of your books warms the heart and soul. I find that I keep thinking about the characters and story for weeks after finishing your books; I consider that a mark of a great story teller! Any chance of a movie from BEACH MUSIC or SOUTH OF BROAD? Hope I don't have to wait 14 more years for another novel!

Pat, bravo on the achievement not only of South of Broad, but of a creative brilliance running deep into the soul. Far too few writers tell magnetic stories that achieve great beauty in the telling.

I'm launching a southern novel -- She-Rain -- nationally in March. Of all the praise flowing to the manuscript, a reviewer in New York touched me, honored me, with the following:

From Ruta Fox, Writer, Editor, Entrepreneur,
"Michael Cogdill is the heir to Pat Conroy. His feel for nuance, ear for the language and ability to describe the beauty of rural North Carolina, are astounding. His storytelling ability, his infectious characters and his authentic Southern soul permeate this marvelous, monumental and moving book."

I will try to live up to this, Pat! You truly inspire!
