Dear Pat,
Thank goodness for a new Pat Conroy! I'm reading SOB now... my other books by your esteemed self show signs of decrepitude... I think even my cats have read them.
Mr. Conroy, I think that you are the greatest American writer of our own time, and possibly of all time. Your gift for description and dialogue are unsurpassed.
I'm so glad you've found your happiness in marriage and in your life... you have brought joy to all your readers by sharing your amazing genius with us. As always, words are totally inadequate to describe our most loved things. Do keep finding stories to tell us. Discovering a new Pat Conroy is better than gold!
Your friend,
Laura Marlow

I'm not a writer, but I know great writing. My boys learned the gift of reading and the art of writing and good sportsmanship by reading Pat Conroy's words. I've learned how to treat children well and to appreciate great food and to despise injustice and to embrace the inconsistencies of all our human natures. I've above all else learned to understand my own lost boy who died by suicide in 2007. And because I now understand what it takes to write with such honest brutality, I'll no longer hold my breath waiting for Pat Conroy's next book. If your words, Pat Conroy, can be blended, barbecued and passed on in my genes, then I shall be a happy and peaceful ghost. But... in the meantime... Have sons, Pat Conroy, have suns.

I closed the last page of Prince of Tides ten minutes ago. The story moved me to tears over and over because I identify with everyone but most closely to Luke; and many say I'll end like him. Thank you for letting God use you as you were created to be. I pray Lord Holy Ghost keeps you and fills you with peace in the knowledge of eternal Salvation through Christ Jesus the King.

I've just finished reading SOB and want to commend you once again for a book hard to put down. All your characters were so real that I felt like I personally knew them. My dear husband worked at the hospital on Bull Street and knew you brother.. they were friends. Keep writing my friend ..Going to read you wife's book now... Mary Anne

Thanks so much for sharing with us your great talent for a good story, empathic characters, and healing messages. May you succeed in finishing those three books you have in your heart, and I'm sending you an abundance of healing thoughts for improved health.

South of Broad is truly one of the best books I've ever read. Please please don't make us wait so long for the next one. My husband and I have read all of your books including My Losing Season and the cookbook, which was awesome. We are so Happy that you are Happy and that you have a wonderful person to share your life with. You have shared so much of yourself through your books, that we talk about you like you are a friend. Don't ever read a review again. Those people are just jealous. Bravo for you for taking us with you on this wonderful ride. My only problem is... what do I read now. Maybe Cassandra King!!!!!!!

After finishing my second reading of South of Broad, I went back and reread Beach Music for the umpteenth time, and it made me cry again, also for the umpteenth time. I have loved all Mr. Conroy's books, especially Prince of Tides and The Great Santini, but in my opinion Beach Music will live on long after any of us as a shining example of the Great American Novel.

Pat, thanks for your writing and amazing descriptions in your books. I read the Lords of Discipline in 2000 and have read it at least once a year since. After my wedding, my wife asked me where I would like to take our first vacation. I chose Charleston because I wanted to see and experience the city that I had read about over and over. It was everything I hoped for and we loved every minute of it. We hope to go back again and see the city we fell in love with. Finally, earlier today I finished reading South of Broad and, once again, found myself caught up in your novel. It brought up so many memories I had of my high school experience and the friends I made there. You are what makes being a reader so special!

What a love letter to the South! Now living in Chicago after growing up in Atlanta, your words were like home to me! This is by far one of the best books I have ever read. As a teacher, it is my hope that high school students will one day be reading this in an English Class. Thank you,
