My mother gave me South of Broad to read, and I devoured it. I was so spellbound that I bought Beach Music. I loved them both. I can't wait to read my next Pat Conroy novel. Keep them coming!

I've read every book Pat Conroy has written. Needless to say I was waiting for SOUTH OF BROAD, and eagerly bought the hard copy, something I do only for keepers on my book shelves. I loved the story about people who inhabit one of my favorite cities on earth. I am excited that in May 2010 I will be in Charleston for two weeks, and I'm hoping there will be a book signing I can attend. Thank you for writing a soul cleansing book.
May all the best in life be yours,
Stella MacLean

I discovered Pat Conroy accidentally when my sister left "Beach Music" at my house when travelling through this summer. What a mistake - for her - needless to say, I've been devouring all the rest of your books I can get from our library. I checked out "My Losing Season" & was hesitant because it was about boring ol' basketball (sorry!):)) but I should have known better, it's a great read just like the others. Your writing style, prose, and self knowledge are incredible. Looking forward to reading South of Broad - I am number 38 on the waiting list at the library. Forget the laundry, dishes, meals, kids, work, read Pat Conroy... until your husband gets home from work :)

I have just finished reading South of Broad. The story made me feel as if I were standing in Charleston. Standing in line for 3 hours for a book signing with you in Augusta, Georgia was a moment I will never forget. Thanks for a wonderful piece of literature!!!

Pat,
Your writings have always been an inspiration. I first discovered Fripp with my wife in 86. I was already a fan and when I heard you were also keen on the Island it became even more special. You are the essence of South Carolina. Your life, as you have shared, has been complicated and you have made something extraordinary from it. The news of your illness is scary so best wishes with your new regimen. We shared a bench at the Shrimp Shack one day a few years ago. I wanted to speak to you about your work but I decided not to intrude. I have mixed feelings about that decision. My diet means no more shrimp burgers so don't feel too alone. Thanks for the entertainment and everything else. Please keep writing.

Dear Mr. Conroy,
South of Broad was simply elegant. I spent the first year of my marriage in Charleston while my husband finished his Navy duty. That was 1964, a year of turmoil for Charleston. You brought back wonderful memories of a year in your beautiful city and reminders of how this Yankee was often shocked by a culture so different from my own.

I, too, am a writer. The downside to reading your wonderful work is that I look at mine with a highly critical eye. Although I've been a journalist for 30 years and have one published nonfiction book behind me, this is my first novel. I can only hope to aspire to reaching the quality of your work. I look forward to your next novel. I'm getting old - don't wait too long, please!

You've done for Charleston in words what Woody Allen has done for New York in film. I'd read your books for that alone.
Thanks, Pat

Pat,
I have read a lot of books in my lifetime, I am a graduate of UVA and W&M, and you are my number one favorite author of all time. You can put together an epic story that flows like the sweep of your hand through the air. I love the South as you do and identify with many of the relational elements in your stories. You are courageous and inspiring. I feel so moved emotionally by your writing. Thank you so much for putting it out there for all the world to enjoy. I sure wish I could meet you one day, have a genuine conversation about all the things that have made you the greatest author you are. Thanks again, thank God for you and your life.
Robin
