I am a Southern "Wannabe". Born and bred in the North (NJ), I have been enamored with all things Southern ever since reading Gone With The Wind in High School. There are so many Southern writers I love but I have read more of Pat Conroy's works than most others. The Prince of Tides remains one of my all time favorite books, with Beach Music close behind. I read South of Broad and at present, the audio edition of My Reading Life is playing in my car. I am charmed and tortured by yours books. Like you, Pat, language feeds my soul. I wish I had met someone like Gene Norris in my early years. In My Reading Life, someone told you that it is always best for the writer of a book NOT to be its reader, yet you are the reader. Why so?

Pat, Prince of Tides was the first of your novels I've read. I just loved your books. Stay healthy Pat, most of us need your books in our lives... Thank you so much. God bless you...

I read The Great Santini as a senior in high school and I thought "he wrote about me and my dad". Thirty years later, I taught this book to High schoolers and thought "He wrote a book about me and my son"!
I have been hooked on your writing since I was 18. Thanks

Pat, I am halfway through My Reading life. I must say, this book helps me know you better. The Water is Wide was one of the first novels I remember reading as a young, uneducated mountain girl. Since then I read all the time. I have read all of your books and love them all. I also love all of Cassandra's and Annie's. I am inspired by your work and hope to write my own novel someday. Your work influences many!

800 characters are not enough. I am not a southerner, but a reader and writer and it's as if you write for me, about me, to instruct me, etc. One thing that always amazes and pleases me is that you don't "dumb down" the language. Sometimes I need the dictionary and I revel in that. Your work educates, entertains and it causes deep reflection.

Pat, The Boo spoke of you as he would a son, We drank bourbon and branch and told stories and laughed. You wrew such a source of pride for him! I feel as though I know you, especially since we know a couple of the same people. While I left Charleston many years ago, you bring it back to me every time I read one of your books; and I've read them all at least twice. My copy of "The Boo" is almost in tatters it's been read so many times, but it still makes me laugh when I really need a good laugh. Through trials and tribulation, you always rise to the heights. You are the epitome of the Southern woman's credo of "What does not kill us makes us stronger". Please come west. I know you know where LA is, and Vegas isn't that far from there! Kind regards, Lynn

The interview on your publisher's facebook is wonderful, I wanted to share my comments. Pat Conroy has influenced my life, and literally started my "travel" path through books. My husband and I travelled to Beaufort, SC the first time after reading the books Beach Music and Prince of Tides. We fell in love with the South on that trip, and have since returned twice: once to meet Pat at a book signing for South of Broad, in Beaufort. When I traveled to France and Paris, I had different "eyes" because of the things I had read in his books. His novels have led me to many other wonderful authors, many of which write beautiful, southern life stories! Pat Conroy, you have inspired this reader the way you share how other authors and your mother inspired you! Keep the books coming!

I am a southern girl born and bred and must say that Pat Conroy is my favorite author. I discovered The Prince of Tides while I lived in New Orleans and devoured the earlier works after that. I wait (although not patiently) for new books of Pat's and am terribly excited about My Reading Life. If you are interested in the south and the nuances of the southern family he is your author. My favorite line of any of his books is "My wound is geography. It is also my anchorage, my port of call." Thank you, Pat, for books that have changed my life.

Pat, I love your writing. I always feel like you're in the room with me, telling me the stories of your life. You made me fall in love with the South, the low country, Charleston, and you. PRINCE OF TIDES was my introduction to Pat Conroy . To quote my "friend" Bill Clinton... I felt your pain, and learned so much about the mindset of Southerners, and even more so in BEACH MUSIC. I was thrilled to find that you have just come out with a new book. I'll be making a trip to the bookstore tomorrow.
