Hello Pat,
We are always excited about your success. Who would have thunk when you pounded me as a knob, and taught Becky at BHS you would have come to this. We are fans, J&B Tolson

Thank you for writing an extraordinary book. I also attended Beaufort HS and was had Mr. Norris for 11th grade English and Mrs. Vella for French. I visited Mrs. Hunter's Library. I graduated in 1972. My father was also a fighter pilot, really an RIO,stationed at MCAS. He was killed in Vietnam on the morning of TET and is buried at the National Cemetary in Beaufort. He also served at Chosen in Korea. Your story articulated my grief journey as I also struggled to reconstruct and "know" my father. From your book, I realize how much of the Marine Corps is part of my psyche. I hadn't thought so much about that. When I visit a military base, I still yearn for an adult understanding of my childhood in Beaufort. The part about our fathers, in their youth, saluting us kids brought me to tears.

I just finished reading "My Reading Life" and loved it. Through this book, you and I had coffee together every morning. It was wonderful! My favorite quote: "Reading and prayer are both acts of worship to me." Amen, Mr. Conroy. Amen. :)

Pat, "My Reading Life" is the first book I downloaded to the Kindle I got for Christmas. I've read all your books and I think this one will become my new favorite. I was laughing out loud reading the chapter on your time in Paris. Many thanks for giving us such a jewel!

My daughter, knowing of my love for your work gave me "My Reading Life," for Christmas. It was wonderful. Thank you once again for creating a thought-provoking, transporting read. This book joins all your others in my library.
P.S. You are the only writer whom I collect in hardcover.

Pat,
I have read all your books starting with the Boo when I was cadet at El Cid. I really enjoy your writing and if you are ever in the NJ, NY, or PA area would love to have you stay with us.
Having the ring your books bring back memories of the Citadel and Charleston and whenever I feel blue I re-read one of your books for these memories and a pick me up.
Thank you, and may you have a blessed Christmas and prosperous New Year.

Pat, I recently read your latest novel, "South of Broad," and "enjoyed" it very much. "Enjoy" isn't a good word to describe how I felt as I read it and when I reflected on it after completing it, but I'm not sure of any other word to use -- maybe "edified," "awestruck," "exhausted" -- I"ll have to think more on this. But there was an aftertaste of a peaceful and satisfying sadness that hung with me for several days. I can so relate to the reverie of this book as I recall my high school days and the years following.

I'm almost through reading "My Reading Life," and it's very emotionally moving as well -- like your book "My Losing Season," which I loved.

Keep on writing!!
