I read "The Prince of Tides" two years ago and it had a powerful impact on me, and became of one of all-time favorite books. Your use of the language is wondrous! I currently am enjoying "My Reading Life" and devouring every word! Obviously, I am a big fan!!!

I just finished listening to "South of Broad" and I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed it. I'm hoping to read more of your work in the near future.

Pat-- My first exposure to your work was when I was 9 and by accident watched part of the movie "The Great Santini". Still remember the scene of the Great S. pounding the BB on his son's head after he lost a game of 1 on 1. Haunted me for years. Just now, at age 38, in the midst of "My Losing Season". Read some of your interviews online and your dad's eulogy-- sad to know that he never gave the Jacket or sent the flowers. I've been touched (and angered) by the true suffering that is behind the ability to write these works-- thanks for your courage in sharing your life with faceless millions unknown to you-- somehow it lessens our own suffering. Hope by God's grace you've been able to really forgive your father--perhaps your life's largest task.

Just read: 'My Losing Season'. Great book. Also read 'Lords of Discipline' and 'The Boo'. I am a native Tarheel, and a West Point grad, so I have much with which to identify with your past. We part ways politically, but that in no way affects my admiration for your writing. Thank you for the courage to venture into this profession. James Cockerham

I have been a fan of your books for years, mr. Conroy...they
have added depth and breadth to my life and I am a better
person for having Pat Conroy as part of my "Reading Life". I
just this minute finished My Losing Season, and iwas touched
more deeply by this book than any others you wrote.

I've read thousands of books (and no "easy" books) and I'm very proud to write down here, on your website, that you are, Mr Conroy, the very best writer I've ever seen. You are so real. You are so deep. You are so human. You are so "exact to the point where it hurts"...
And I find myself back in all your books !
Thank you...
P.

I am thrilled to find this site & other Conroyian devotees. I am a Savannahian who also moved to Atlanta near Emory in the winter of 1973, so I am thrilled to know I was living close to you when you wrote THE GREAT SANTINI. I knew the old bookshop! I even worked on Briarcliff Rd. I have devoured every word you've written, Pat, & constantly long for more. I've never related as much to any author as I do you. I am a writer, thinly disguised as a nurse. I so much respect & appreciate your background & your innate ability & willingness to relay your live via book/poetry form. Long live the most powerful writer in my lifetime! I hope you are content. Breathe that east coast beach air for me!

I just finished Beach Music. Wow. What a gift you have given us. What characters. I laughed everytime those brothers opened their mouths. I cried when Jordan and his dad made up. You made me think about my relationship with my own son. And the next serious book I'm going to read will be about the Vietnam war. Thank you for this book Mr. Conroy. Thank you so much.
