So many times I will finish a passage and then close my eyes and enjoy the prose, then read it again. Your writing is a lush and amazing experience for me. Can't wait to see you in Beaufort and have the opportunity to buy Death of Santini! Love that little bookstore in downtown Beaufort!!

I just finished rereading The Prince of Tides. Years ago, this book introduced me to your writings. Since I first read it, I have bought and read every book you have written. I had forgotten what a wonderful story this is. You are the BEST and remain my favorite author! Can't help wondering how much of The Prince of Tides came from your actual experiences and how much of it was fictional. Keep writing and I will keep buying. I am looking forward to The Death of Santini.

My family are avid readers and fans. The wife is a retired English teacher. Our youngest son is an English graduate Citadel '97. In The Prince of Tides the mother marries the wealthy family nemesis. At the time, I considered that implausible - that a woman could marry someone she apparently loathed. I think my question was "Did you fabricate the situation or transpose it from life?" My thought was maybe a woman could do that for security, but a man could never. It would violate his sense of right. I have since observed this behavior; maybe most recently in Tiger Woods and his new flame. As lifelong South Carolinians and former Walterboro residents, we appreciate how you weave real events into your story.
Thank you for many hours of entertainment.

Been going to Fripp since 1960's have a house around the corner from you. I would love to purchase a collection of DVD's of your movies. How can I do this? I called everywhere in Beaufort for the collection no luck! I want to introduce you to my grandchildren. Thanks and I wish you well. Jean

There is very little point in me trying to put into words how your books have affected me. An emotional explosion each time I read and re-read them. I came home from a holiday recently and someone asked me what was the best thing about it and I answered 'The Lords of Discipline!!!! Needless to say they didn't get it but that book, Prince of Tides and Beach Music will remain as my treasures posessions forever. Many, many thanks for your wonderful gift.

Greetings Pat,
I will keep this short. I have really enjoyed your books, but there is an essential work that is missing. There have been hints at it, but the biography of Gene Norris would be an important story of this great man. The people he touched are dying off as the years go by. You have honored him as no one else has. His story would suprise many. I can picture Gene rolling his eyes at this and shaking his head.
Best regards, Howard Sweatte

Mr. Conroy,
In 1974, new to SC, I was hired to teach junior high school in Bluffton. I was told that before I went to work there I should read The Water is Wide. I discovered that several of the students were brought over from 'Fuskie on Monday morning by boat and were put up at Abe's Fish Camp during the week. Your insights into those students helped me tremendously and I have read all your books.

I have recently moved to Murrells Inlet. Last Friday I purchased My Reading Life. It has been a long time since a book has moved me as that one did. How can you make me want to read both James Dickey and War and Peace? Your insight into Gone with the Wind was amazing.

Thank you for many hours of pleasure and insight over the last forty years.

Reread Beach Music, haven't read it since the first time it came out so my memory didn't recall much of its greatness. It's one of the top four books of my life, Prince of Tides, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Gone With the Wind. Thank you for sharing your greatness with dumb old me.
