omg, I just finished The Lords of Discipline! I carried it like a newborn babe for several minutes. At 65 that's pretty amazing for me! My father,Paul Jones Zachary went to Georgia military in 1920s so I was researching. Ted Turner went there as well lol. This book was moving on so many levels. Many thanks for a beautiful read! Susan Burke P.s. Happy Birthday 60 is good, 70 should be better!

Thank you Pat Conroy for your gifted books. I just finished reading "My Losing Season". I have read South of Broad, Beach Music, Water is Wide, The Great Santini and Prince of Tides. My Father was also a Marine and I can associate with the constant uprooting of my childhood. Upon reading "My Losing
Season", I noticed in your commentary that you attended first grade in New Bern, NC. Could this have been the historical school in the center of New Bern that was once some kind of military barracks? (Two identical brick buildings.). I am six years younger than you.... And I had attended that school. What pleasure it would give me to know you were there, also. God Bless.

Even though I'm West Coast, I can relate to Conroy's descriptions of the Catholic Church, Catholic Education, basketball, racism, lunacy, and the like. I was a VISTA volunteer, close to Conroy's desire to teach the underprivileged ("The Water Is Wide"). I did not serve in South Carolina (there were no openings). They sent me a few miles north... to Anchorage, Alaska. I've read "The Water Is Wide", "South of Broad", and "The Great Santini". I'm on my way this summer to celebrate his 70th birthday by reading his works. I'm 64 and am grateful for his books. Let's hope the Santini cast will reprise their roles for "The Death of Santini".

I have read every book Pat Conroy has written except "The Boo" and the cookbook. Mr. Conroy is an amazing writer and inspires me to write. I would someday like to make a living as an author and be half as god as he is.

I have loved Pat Conroy's writing and books since I first read Prince of Tides. I am reading Beach Music for the 4th time this summer. Keep writing! You are my favorite author!

Thank you so much Mr. Pat Conroy. You have
truly opened up my world. I don't think its an
accident that my maiden name is Buford and
you write so much about Beauford, SC

Your honesty in your writing is what kept me reading. I closed the book feeling as if I had met Pat Conroy.

I just had the pleasure of attending the Blue Bicycle Books presentation today with you and Catherine and meeting you. I left a copy of the Kiawah Conservancy's magazine, Naturally Kiawah, that I edit. We are so hoping that you might join us for our symposium on loggerhead turtles in Novembet. We plan to cook from your cookbook. If you cannot come, perhaps you might write a little something for the magazine or permit us to quote from Beach Music (with full attribution). I left my card with contact information. My fantasy is that I will answer the phone one day and a voice will say, "This is Pat Conroy." But now I know it will probably be Bernie Schein or it will be you but I will assume it is Bernie Schein and make a complete fool of myself! Thank you.

Mr. Pat Conroy has been my most favorite author for many years. To me, he is the best Southern novelist of all time and always will be. I send my deep love, admiration and appreciation to him.

I loved your newest book, but I've loved all your books, especially "Prince of Tides" and "My Losing Season." I continue to be deeply impressed and moved by your attempts at recovery from the devastation of your childhood and am deeply moved by your willingness to forgive. I share many of your experiences and appreciate more than I can say your ability to express the feelings that accompany those experiences. I love your poetic prose most of all and the speed with which you carry me through your writings; I do, however, always feel an emptiness and loneliness when I finish one of your books. Stay well, Pat Conroy; I'm so glad you are part of my life.
