I'm grateful for the masterful work of Pat Conroy. My warmest regards for his family and those who have so closely loved and lost him. I learned of his passing from a newspaper article just yesterday. I've my first complete work of fiction in the toolshed now and I owe so much to Pat's craftsmanship in the art of Southern story. I saw in him a command of self-expression laid bare, contused and bleeding to the world that moved me to strike a fire and rearrange the air a little. I earnestly pray and hope that I too will discover my truest self and share its discoveries with the known wide world. Rest easy, Pat. There is a great gettin' up morning promised us all. With appreciation and respect, --Curt.

Searching today to see if any latest work I saw the sad news of Pat's passing. I came upon him via The Prince of Tides movie and after reading the book, better as always than the film, I bought and read, reread all his books, His greatest talent to me was the words spoke from the page in the soft Carolinas accent of the South.
Here's to re reading and remembering one of the great American/World authors.

I was shocked to learn about the passing of my favorite author, and ashamed I only found out just now. I discovered his work in my teens and to this day, few things have a more soothing, inspiring effect on me than reading Pat Conroy. I wish I could have met him once in my life to tell him how much his books meant to me. My sincere condolences to his family.

I think he was as close to TYPEWRITER as John Ford was to a movie camera. He was to the tidewater as john Ford was to the great Monument valley. He made you want to go and see. I had some great debates over who the greatest author of my time was. i always won

I picked up The Death of Santini in February from the library. I'm not a fast reader, so I had already renewed it once when I saw the headline that my favorite author had passed. How ironic that I had his book literally in my hands when I heard the news. So very sad but so blessed to have his literary influence in my simple life. Twenty years in South Carolina (and a Clemson grad) was all worth it to be exposed to the genius of Pat Conroy. I will so miss his work he never had the chance to write, but I will certainly treasure the pages of his that grace my bookshelf forever. Much love and respect always.

The South sighs in sorrow at the passing of this extraordinary man who wrote with such elegance, beauty, and poetry, telling the stories of his life. We are forever grateful for Mr. Conroy's gift of eloquent words and the majestic language of his stories. Rest in peace, dear friend.

I am devastated by the passing of Pat Conroy. I have read all his work and he feels like family to me. I have one regret; I couldn't make it to his 70th birthday party this past October, and I truly wanted to go to meet him. He was such a wonderful writer. I will miss him and his beautifully written books. I send prayers out to his family in this time of loss and sorrow.
