Pat, like you I am a Southerner. Your books have truly enriched my life! In the mid 1990's, you visited Hilton Head for a book signing. I owned none yet but an Atlanta friend had loaned me Beach Music. Knowing Mark would enjoy having it autographed and I could buy one for myself, I stood in line outside with a zillion other fans. But once inside the host bookstore, ALL of your books were out of stock including paperbacks! When my turn came to meet you, you said I did not look like a "Mark; I explained the autograph was for my friend, and you wrote something like "Mark, Diane is a good friend and you owe her big time". He was so delighted with his signed book!
I pray for your speedy recovery and for your family and friends. I look forward to your next book. Blessings, Diane

It has been my pleasure to hear Pat Conroy speak on 2 occasions here at Furman. The first when freshmen had read his My Losing Season and he talked about a reader mistaking him for Stephen King--husband of Cassandra KING--:) the second back in the fall when he joined a panel of other local writers--I bought his Death of Santini since it was his most recent book--he signed it "for the love of family." I have not read it yet because I figured it might be good to read The Great Santini first--I don't know why I had resisted reading it since I found that it, like each one of his other novels--bumps the previous ones as "my favorite." While I never wanted Beach Music to end, I can't wait to read this newest book and also look forward to his current promise to be fulfilled. God has this!

Where there is life, there is hope. May the peace that surpasses all understanding be with you, Pat Conroy. You are in my prayers. May God send healing angels to surround you, along with the nine Greek muses of writing: Clio, the use of History; Thalia, the Muse of Comedy and Idyllic Poetry; Erato, the Muse of Lyric Poetry; Euterpe, the Muse of Music and the giver of delight; Polyhymnia, the Muse of Sacred Poetry and Hymns, dance and eloquence; Calliope, the Chief of all Muses and Muse of Epic Poetry; Terpsichore, the Muse of Music, Dance, and Chorus; Urania, the Muse of Universal Love and the Holy Spirit; and last but certainly not least, Melpomene, the Muse of Tragedy. Write again for us, dear Pat.

Today's news on my FB page was most unwelcome. Cancer is the worst illness, so many of us suffer from it, I try to live with it and not wait for it to take me away. My pancreas is also sick.....there is little to eat that is tasty....stay in the positive zone, share all your love with family, good doctors are great but close friends and family are a must. Have followed you for years, loved Cassandra since Queens Friends of the Library.....I send you prayers for healing, peace to survive this ordeal and spunk to fight every step of the way. Pax, Linda

Hi Pat,
We met in 1984-85 when I worked for Sandy Goldberg at Roe, Martin & Neiman. There was a party celebrating your mega hit - Prince of Tides. It was a thrill meeting you!!! Please know you are in my prayers. God has this!

I have long been a fan of your books, having read all of them at least twice. As a middle school English teacher, there were no better example of descriptive writing than yours and I used examples from your books every year. Each book has been a treasured gift as I looked forward to the next when I finished the last. Thank you for the many trips I've taken to the low country and places beyond through your writing. My parents had a place on Fripp Island for many years and it was my mother's love of your books that brought her to that beautiful place. I wish for you good health and the opportunity to continue doing what you love to do.
