When the TV movie Unconquered/Invictus aired in Jan. '89, I taped it and showed the film to all my students. They were so moved by it that many borrowed the tape to show the movie to their parents, and colleagues borrowed it to show to their classes. Thank you for writing the moving teleplay of the story of Richmond Flowers. Jr. and Sr. And thank you more than I can say for all your incredibly fine novels. Sending you much love and many good vibes as you fight the upcoming battle.

Pat, I will always be grateful to you that you signed all of those cookbooks when my daughter got married in Beaufort. She has the note you wrote for her while we were in Highlands, above her little boy's bed. It is worth a zillion dollars to her and her husband! And to me! Thank you again!

I will be in prayer for you and the Doc's at MD Anderson for your treatment and recovery. We will have you in our hearts and prayers as you face this treatment! Keep a positive attitude and know that you are loved by many!

Thank you for all that you have meant to me! I have read every word that you have written that I can get my hands on! What an amazing writer you are. A legend in your own time!

Dear Pat,
Please excuse my using your first name, but I just finished The Death of Santini and feel like I have been allowed into your family. I laughed, I cried then laughed again...I thought only my family was dysfunctional! Wishing you well as you recover...I am now off to re-read all your books...as I have done since I first read The Great Santini when I was serving in the Army and stationed in Savannah. Prayers for you and your family from the Volunteer State.

Pat:
I recently spoke to you at length at your birthday party. We were at the end of a very long line and even though you had another birthday celebration to go to, you stayed until we all had our books signed. I ragged you on being from a non-military company since I was a 2d Bn guy and told you about Joe Eubanks being one of my Sgt as a knob. You were great to talk to and that weekend was one of the high points of all time. Please fight this thing and recover. You are a tough guy and if anybody can beat it, you can.

Mr. Conroy, Your books piqued my interest enough that this Yankee girl is planning on moving to Beaufort, SC! Your books are real, heartfelt, and honest. I pray that you have a speedy recovery!

Since Prince of Tides your love of language and beauty has given me so much. I want to give you a message of hope as a 4 time cancer survivor. You have two important things that will help you-great family and great humor. You have to laugh. Don't ever loose that (I don't think you could). Hang on to hope. Thank you for all the joy you have given your readers over the years. I know they want to give back to you. I am not gifted with words, but I am sending you my thoughts and my love.

Mr. Conroy, you will never remember meeting me but I've sought you out at various events to have you sign copies of your books for me and to listen to stories of your life and adventures. I too grew up in a terribly disfunctional family but your stories have given me hope and courage to stand firm and to find joy in life. I have read and retread my favorite; Prince of Tides, so many times my signed copy is ratty! Your literary works may have started as a way to clear your head of the past, but you have since affected the lives of so many with them. What a gift you have! Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you during your battle with this horrible Desease. Stand firm you can beat this! I expect to see you soon....

Hi Pat. Meeting you last May in Newberry has been one of the highlights of my life. I so enjoyed chatting, comparing life stories, and just the easy conversation. This health issue you're facing (and will fight) is one more of the many twists and turns in life...hang on! Praying for you...God knows.
