Mr. Conroy, I work at the Rome History Museum in Rome Ga. We had a woman come in last week who said she was an English teacher from Atlanta and heard you were living in Rome (GA). Just wondered if this was true. I told her I knew your Mom was from Rome as I checked out one of your books from our local library about 25 years ago and you had written in it and noted that Rome was the birthplace of your mother. Your bio mentions here maiden name was Peck so I have to ask are you a related to "Rat" Peck, a former policeman here? Just curious. Thanks, Russell McClanahan

Mr Conroy,

You have the most wonderful way with words. I have read Beach Music too many times to count, and even convinced my husband to read it. I am amazed at how vividly and beautiful you write about the emotions of your characters. I find myself rereading lines from your novels over and over again. Meeting you has become a goal of mine and I hope to do just that at one of your signings for your new book. As an aspiring writer you are at once inspiring and intimidating in the beauty of your words. Thank you for writing your wonderful novels and I am looking forward to South of Broad.

Mr. Conroy,
You are my very favorite author, and I enjoyed discovering the article about you in my latest Southern Living magazine. I am looking forward with much anticipation to your latest novel, South of Broad, and I intend to present my thirteen-year-old daughter, who is an avid reader, an introduction to you by giving her The Water is Wide for her upcoming birthday. Best wishes for success with South of Broad, and I hope for more of your novels in the future. Lauren S. Holland

Dear Mr. Conroy,

I wanted to let you know that I just read, My Losing Season. It was like I was reading a book about my own life. I am not sure how to put it in words all the similarities between our lives. I was a high school basketball and college basketball player as well. Your book Mr. Conroy was touching and has hit me hard. Thank you so much for sharing painful details of your life. I find the book to be insightful for all men who have grown up feeling like they never measure up. I believe that you have proven that you are a great person who has made a career of writing words that helps heal old wounds. Thank you for your books.

As a native Charlestonian transplanted in Beaufort, SC, I eagerly read my advance copy of Mr. Conroy's new book.

How did I receive this great honor? I luckily purchased one of the oldest independent bookstores in the Southeast, Bay Street Trading Company, in Beaufort.

To all his fans, the wait has been worth it! South of Broad is all it has been described as and more!

We at Bay Street Trading can't wait to host Mr. Conroy on August 29th at the only bookstore in which he has signed every book he's written!

What an honor! Thank you!

Lisa Estes

I've been crazy about your writing since I read "The Great Santini" when it came out. My dad handed the book to me, and said, "Here's a book about me." I think, looking back, he meant Ben Meecham. My brothers and I viewed him as another Great Santini. Heh.

My all-time favorite is "The Lords of Discipline."

I blame you for my love of Spanish moss-covered oaks, the landscape of the coastal South, Charleston, and certain aspects of the military.

Looking forward to finally seeing you, in person, in Birmingham.

Best wishes for your book and tour.

I was born in Montgomery, Alabama on a cold day in December. Raised in a family of five boys with a poor Mother from North Carolina, and a hard working dad from Crete, Greece. Early childhood memories of my brothers and I being loaded in the old family car to go to the 2nd Baptist Church one Sunday, the Greek Orthodox Church the next. Growing up in a very racially divided city on the out break of the civil rights movement, and going to school as a poor white kid in the mix of the very rich kids at Sidney Lanier High School as life in a modest southern city in the early 60s has led me to with to write about this period. Wish I had the skills to do so. Those days now haunt my memory....
