Pat-
You inspired and encouraged me when I was a young woman starting out in television during the 70's. You critiqued my columns for Charlotte Magazine with your then good friend who was the Editor in Chief. I think of you often, but realize you may not remember me. I was a friend of late great Doug Marlette's wife, who also moved to Atlanta when I was living there. I missed our reunion by not attending their barbecue one summer. You have always been the standard by which I measure not only my writing, but my courage in the face of adversity. I hope you remember, but if you do not...Know this. You changed my life for 30 years ago. You seem to sense we had pain in common.

I love your books and await the arrival of this one. It was mailed yesterday from Amazon...want to take it with me to Fripp Is. when I go in a week...it'll be my beach read. My favorite was "Beach Music" being from SC and loving to "shag!" Thanks for writing again...don't ever stop telling us your stories.

8/11/2009 - What happended with the GMA show this AM, I have watched from 7am to 8:40 am, and had to leave for work - still no mention of the most important interview ever PAT CONROY-----Eash and every book has been wonderful, the story line is so real and keeps your interest from work one to the last, I also think that the things that you do stand up publicly for are very worth while,

I'm SO excited to have my hands on "South of Broad." It arrived in the mail today after I pre-ordered it. I'll be up several more hours so that I can really get into it. Thank you, thank you, thank you for writing another book. You're my all-time favorite author and I've really missed you. Will you ever come to San Diego for a book signing?

I've read each of your books multiple times. (Yes, that includes 'The Boo.' ) At last count I've read Lords of Discipline 4 times and Prince of Tides 3 times. I cannot wait to get my hands on 'South of Broad.'

I'm curious about 'Beach Music' and the possibility of a movie. I recall reading that you'd sold the movie rights, and at a speaking engagement at the University of Georgia in 1996 (maybe 1997?) and you mentioned the movie being in the initial planning stages. I'm wondering if that's still a go.

Thanks for your artistry! I miss my days in Georgia, and your books always take me back home to the South.

I have enjoyed all of your books. My favorite of your books and the first one I read, The Great Santini, really spoke to me, having grown up in the military culture. I strongly reccomend the DVD Military Brats by Kris Kristopherson for other military "brats"...we are a subculture in this society. Also, please come to Bloomington, Indiana!

You were the inspiration for my novel, "Beaufort Falls." While
"Beach Music" is my favorite of your books, I've loved each of
them in turn. Your ironic humor, your ability to put yourself
into the heads of your characters, your portrayal of the bizarre
twists and turns that make up family and your lyrical
command of language are talents I've tried to emulate; a
challenge for any beginning author. Thank you for writing.

I cannot wait to read South of Broad. Growing up in east Tennessee our yearly vacations always took us to the beaches of S.C. My heart belongs there as does yours. Your writings have all touched me in a special way but Beach Music is the ONE! I have a paperback copy that goes on every beach trip with me. Yes, there is sand in the pages and salt water stains but I love to get it out in the winter just to smell. I had heard there was going to be a Beach Music movie. What happened to it? I've been waiting for years. I can hardly wait to see Charleston through your eyes...hope to see you in Asheville

I just finished reading Lords of Discipline and The Great Santini(one of my all time favorite movies). I love the brutal honesty of his characters. I am 54 and still play weekly full court bb and loved The Losing Season. I look forward to South of Broad. I come from a Catholic family of 8 kids and while not nearly as tough a father as I think Conroy had, there are many similarities. Conroy's ability to depict strong love/hate relationships and his sensitivity and honesty around those are almost unique in my opinion. Thanks for the great reads and I hope there are more to come.
