I am so very thrilled to be receiving my copy of South of Broad today. It was pre-ordered the very day I found out about it. It will take everything in my soul not to begin reading it tonight. I am saving it to read on vacation beginning Sunday.......at Fripp Island. What better place to read my favorite writer than on the beautiful island where he lives! I don't even know how to tell you what all your books have meant to me. I find sentences so beautiful, that I just sit and read them over and over again.

I discovered your artistry in the language that made it to the screen in "The Prince of Tides", but not until I dove into "Beach Music" did I truly discover your lyrical command of the written word. What a gifted, spectacular story teller. I'm not quite finished with it, but I can taste the salt water and smell the tides of this rapturous epic through your magical prose.

Dear Mr. Conroy,
I picked up my long awaited pre-ordered copy of South of Broad today. I keep reaching for it, but hesitate to begin because the sooner I start the sooner it will end. I re-read Beach Music every summer and it never fails to speak to me in new ways. Recently my wonderful 28 year old son has removed himself from my life. This summer Beach Music filled me with hope that he will return. I pray that my son is on a journey that will lead him home. Your writing is so beautiful and lyrical that it is its own Beach Music to my soul. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Dear Pat,
My sister (who lives in Maryland and I in NY) both went out and bought South of Bend today so we could read it together. I am only in the first chapter but am savoring your beautiful, lyrical language already. Since I am home recovering from surgery, this release couldn't have come at a better time for me!

Dear Mr. Conroy,
I have been anxiously awaiting the release of "South of Broad" for a long time and so it was my first order of business today to run to the bookstore to pick it up. I have only read through the first chapter so far but from the first sentence, I felt that the wait was more than worth it and I fell even deeper in love with your writing. You are my favorite (living) author and if it takes another 10 years before you write another novel, rest assured, this book lover will be picking it up.

Mr. Conroy,

I just finished reading the preface of South of Broad and was literally moved to tears by the description of the main character's father. Having grown up in Florida, with a mother who taught her children about butterflies, stars, and numerous other things, your lovely prose made me even more thankful for the years I had with her. I have read all your books and as a public librarian constantly recommend them to my patrons --always explaining while the story is always interesting and enjoyable--your use of the language is spectacular! Thank you for all the joy your books have given me over the years!

Mr. Conroy,
Well, it has only taken 52 years and 23 moves to figure out why I attract certain people in my life. Like you, I was a military brat, and attended 14 schools before college. Thank you for finally clearing this up. When you said that you sought those kids who needed friends when you moved to a new school, it was that eureka moment for me! Finally! I am just finishing Beach Music and cannot wait to read South of Broad. Bless you.

After grad school, I had little time for reading unrelated to my discipline. On vacation, two years ago, I picked up a copy of Beach Music and rarely lifted my head from the book the entire vacation. You had me completely hooked, and I followed quickly with Lords of Discipline and Prince of Tides. Amazing to learn what I was missing by not seeing what a gifted writer could do. I've recommended your work to so many and all have enjoyed your writing as much as I have. Iwas so very happy to see you're wrtiting again, and first thing this am, went out and purchased South of Broad. Keep writing! Thanks so much for your incredible talent and gift.
