I have just finished South of Broad, after waiting (and not too patiently) for your new book. I knew I would not be disappointed. But, as others have said before, I am missing the story and the characters already- I will pick it up again before the evening is through. ( I cannot tell you how many times I have reread your other books!)
Being from the cold frozen North in Canada, I wonder at my almost visceral response to your characters and descriptions of Charlston and life in the south. But your language and imagery are so lush and 'over the top' I get sucked in every time - whether you are describing cooking, life in the Citadel,or even the blood and sweat of basketball and football (I am so not a jock!)
South of Broad is about friends, trust, and faith - Yes!

Just when I think you can't "do it again", you do... you totally captivated me with the first page. I'm sure, by now, my words will seem repetitious of other devoted readers, but you, Pat Conroy, are my ALL-TIME FAVORITE AUTHOR... and yes, I have truly read everything you've written. What a gift you possess---without a doubt you are the most descriptive and eloquent author I've ever read... you have "ruined" me for all other authors... and I REALLY read a lot. I would love to sit down one day and just talk to you... what a thrill that would be. You are a gift to those of us who love the American South... and a gift to our hearts. Please don't wait 14 more years to write another awesome novel! THANKS AGAIN...

Thank you for Leo, Niles, Starla, Ike, Betty, Fraser, Sheba, Trevor, Molly, and even Chad. They are my friends for life.

Thank you also for sharing a strategy to fight mind-numbing depression. You gave me hope that if I pretend to be happy, I can keep the "beast" at bay and maybe... just maybe... banish the beast forever.

God bless you and grant you good health Mr. Conroy.

I had to stop reading for a while, with just a few chapters to go. I don't want the story to end! I almost want to ration the remaining pages to make the pleasure of reading Pat Conroy last just a little bit longer. I have visited Charleston just two times, but fell in the love with the city. Reading "South of Broad" confirms my feelings for this city. Thanks for a GREAT read --- don't wait so long for the next book!

I have loved all of your books and was ecstatic to purchase "South of Broad". I am letting myself read a few pages a day to savor each page to the end. Fourteen years is a long wait for someone who loves the writing of Pat Conroy

I just finished South of Broad and I was so sorry to see it end. I wanted it to go just a little longer so Leo could get the thing he really wanted in life, may-be someday he will show up in another book and we will find out more about him.

This is the first book by Pat Conroy I have ever read. I bought it because I love Charleston and visit at least once every year. This book is beautifully written, thought provoking and like nothing I have ever read before. I will recommend it to everyone I know and have become an "unofficial" reader of everything Pat Conroy. Please take care, stay well and just know what pleasure and enjoyment you bring to everyone with your writing.
Sincerely,
Peggy Helton

I just finished "South of Broad" and what a pleasure it was. I couldn't get enough and was sorry it was over. This is great art and description with words. Pat Conroy is one of my favorite authors.

Just started reading your cookbook. I started in Tuscany because we loved Tuscany so much when we visited there. I didn't get past the second page of the chapter before I was in tears. Such beautiful imagery, I have the films of your novels, but if this is a typical example of your writing I'm going to read them all. I so admire your ability to paint such a beautiful picture with your words.
