Just finished my second reading of South of Broad - not bad
since I bought it only 5 days ago.
My turn to play copy editor - p. 393, second full paragraph, last
line; "shone over Bethlehem", not "shown over Bethlehem".
"Was shown" would be all right!
Now I have to go read Beach Music again - I'm struck by the
similarity between Starla and Shyla.
Mr. Conroy, even though your wonderful stories are set in the
Low Country, they somehow capture all of us. Thank you.

I sat behind you on a plane ride from Atlanta to Charlotte in 1988. We shared Colonel Joe and Jean Jones as friends. I bought SOB but loaned it to an elderly friend of mine since she had just finished POT. I was asked to find some biographical info and print it for her. You have a new 86 yr old fan.

Dear Mr. Conroy,

You are my favorite writer of all time. I have read all of your novels. Each and everyone of your characters are very real people to me and I love them, warts and all.

I hope that your health continues to improve and that you are able to continue to bestow your wonderful literary gifts upon us for many years to come.

Your faithful fan,

Lorraine

You continue to wow me. I didn't want SOB to end. I am so fortunate to have Charleston so close by. Please take care and thank you for a great story.

Mr. Conroy, thanks for another book that takes us into the heart of Carolina in such a profound way, South of Broad. It grieved me to come to the end of those oak-lined pages - may your health continue to improve and allow you to bring us more of the richness of Carolina and characters that hold a piece of us all.

Mr. Conroy, after reading South of Broad, you continue to be my favorite author. I was so engrossed with the characters I cried when I reached the end. You are a masterful storyteller. I await every one of your books like a visit from a cheerished friend... time very well spent.

I loved Beach Music! That book led me to establish a second home in the Georgia Low Country - a long ways away for a native Angeleno! I didn't stay up all night to finish it, though, the way I did last night with South of Broad!
Thanks, and thanks again! SOB will be a read-over-and-over book for me, just like all your others.

As always, I hated for the story to end. I wept for the emotions the story brought back to my memory of true friendship. I am both a member of the Church of God and an avid Gaffney Indian fan, so those mentions in SOB only added to it's appeal. Met you X2 @ signings and hope to see you again in Charlotte. You are truly a voice of my South.
