Hi Pat, So happy to see your newest book advertised in the New York Times, on the bestseller list yet again.
I met you through Martin Chitwood, in ATL, back in the 80's when you - he were collaborating on a TV movie script about an Alabama athlete. I saw you another time or two, the most recent being at Spoleto in 1999 (or 2000)-when I walked up to your table and told you my name, and with your amazing recall from the 80's-you said "the stewardess".... I almost passed out. (smile). My Uncle, Larry Laws was a Charleston resident at the time (1998-2001), (Rutledge Ave)-- and now we all live up here in the triangle.
At any rate, I wish you only the best. I now work at Duke University Medical Center, am 51, - a recent cancer survivor, let me know if you ever need a good Dr. at Duke.

Dear Mr. Conroy,
I've read most of your books and always enjoyed them. I opened your new book, "South of Broad," last night and was dismayed to see an unbelievable mistake in grammar near the top of Page 3: "... he would take my brother, Steve, and I out into the boat...." The sentence calls for the objective case (Steve and me), not the nominative (Steve and I). Surely, with all of your education you know the difference. The grammar mistake doesn't reflect well on you nor on your editors nor on your character, the son of brilliant teachers.

Dear Mr Conroy,

I have just finished SOB and like everyone else loved every word. I've read all your books and anxiously await your next. I was sorry to read about your fragile health. I cannot wait to visit Charleston some day and relive Leo's life there in my mind. I also want to travel north to Myrtle Beach. Thank you so much for these wonderful stories that you share with all of us. All the best. Mary

Just finished my second reading of South of Broad - not bad
since I bought it only 5 days ago.
My turn to play copy editor - p. 393, second full paragraph, last
line; "shone over Bethlehem", not "shown over Bethlehem".
"Was shown" would be all right!
Now I have to go read Beach Music again - I'm struck by the
similarity between Starla and Shyla.
Mr. Conroy, even though your wonderful stories are set in the
Low Country, they somehow capture all of us. Thank you.

I sat behind you on a plane ride from Atlanta to Charlotte in 1988. We shared Colonel Joe and Jean Jones as friends. I bought SOB but loaned it to an elderly friend of mine since she had just finished POT. I was asked to find some biographical info and print it for her. You have a new 86 yr old fan.

Dear Mr. Conroy,

You are my favorite writer of all time. I have read all of your novels. Each and everyone of your characters are very real people to me and I love them, warts and all.

I hope that your health continues to improve and that you are able to continue to bestow your wonderful literary gifts upon us for many years to come.

Your faithful fan,

Lorraine
